Paris GCC Wetland - Electrofishing Trench

The objective of this project was to restore the function of a wetland which had been “trenched”. The restoration strategy involved re-filling the trench to allow groundwater and overland flow back into the wetland area which would re-saturate the soil and re-establish the wetland channel. Several spring channels were conveyed across the trench using specialized drainage features into newly created swales, which then conveyed the flows into an abandoned channel within the wetland, restoring the channel’s function. Any existing vegetation in the work area that was considered rare or desirable was temporarily removed during the heavy construction and then replanted. Locally sourced wood and rock debris was used to recreate habitat features within the wetland and wetland channel.

PARISH Geomorphic Ltd. was responsible for the historical background review of air-photos and mapping, channel design and cost estimates, as well as on-site supervision and consultation with the client, the local conservation authority, sub-consultants and construction crews.
