Watershed Assessments

Completing channel inventories and watershed assessments represents one of our core services. As fluvial geomorphologists, one aspect that is fundemental to any study is gaining an understanding of the upstream drainage area. This involves some basic mapping and aerial photograph analyses to evaluate the upstream watershed and characterize the channel. For basin-scale projects such as subwatershed studies, this exercise is completed in a more comprehensive manner. In addition to the desktop work, field characterization is completed through ‘Rapid Assessments’ followed by thorough, detailed field data collection. Ultimately, the synthesis and interpretation of the field and desktop findings is one of the most valuable contributions we can provide This interpretation is supported by extensive empirical analyses and the application of ‘in-house’ regional curves.
